Los Angeles | $2.195 Million

A circa 1930 Spanish-style house with five bedrooms and four bathrooms, on a 0.2-acre lot

View Park, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2016, is one of the largest historic districts in California, with its well-kept 1920s and 1930s homes. This house, a contributing property to the historic district, is about half a mile from Crenshaw Boulevard, one of the area’s major thoroughfares. Downtown Los Angeles is about 20 minutes away, depending on traffic; Culver City is about a 15-minute drive.

Size: 3,160 square feet

Price per square foot: $695

Indoors: The house is elevated from street level, with stairs leading up to a covered entry.

The arched front door opens into a foyer with Venetian plaster walls and a staircase with wrought-iron railings. To the left and down a step is a sunken living room with original hardwood floors, a fireplace with its original hearth and restored leaded-glass windows.

To the right is a dining room with original hardwood floors, tall windows facing the street and arched doorways leading to the kitchen. The sellers preserved the original tile — buttery yellow with aqua and black accents — that covers the kitchen’s walls and its coved ceiling. Off the kitchen is a breakfast room with built-in shelving and a door to the pool area.

Two bedrooms are on this level, the first off the foyer, across from the front door. Currently used as an office, it has an en suite bathroom, as does the bedroom on the other side of the house.

At the top of the stairs is the primary bedroom, which has restored leaded-glass doors that open to a Juliet balcony; the primary bathroom has its original tile, an etched mirror and a shower with a frosted-glass door. Next door is a sunny guest room with space for a king-size bed and a desk. At the end of the hall is a guest suite with a dressing area tucked between the bedroom and full bathroom; it has a wooden vanity that could be used as a desk.

The sizable basement could be used for storage or finished as additional living space.

Outdoor space: A covered patio can be reached from a short staircase that extends from the breakfast room. On one side is an open paved area overlooking the street; on the other is a wide space facing the swimming pool, which has a brick surround. On the other side of the pool is a small lawn framed by trees. The attached garage holds two cars.

Taxes: $27,432 (estimated)

St. Helena | $2.195 Million

A one-bedroom, one-bathroom Craftsman cottage built in 1940, with a one-bedroom, one-bathroom guest unit, on a 0.2-acre lot

This property offers a great deal of flexibility: The front and rear units have their own kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms, and adjacent to the swimming pool, an accessory dwelling unit with two bedrooms and two bathrooms has been permitted and partially constructed.

St. Helena’s charming Main Street is about half a mile away, with the boutique hotels, tasting rooms and upscale dining that make the city a popular weekend destination. Robert Louis Stevenson Middle School, part of the St. Helena Unified School District, is a block away. Santa Rosa is about a 45-minute drive.

Size: 1,340 square feet

Price per square foot: $1,638

Indoors: The front yard is landscaped with low hedges, and steps lead up to a covered porch with bead-board detailing.

Behind the glass-paned front door is a living room with maple floors and a wood-burning fireplace. Opposite the living room is a dining room with Anewall wallpaper depicting a pastoral scene in shades of charcoal. Through the dining room is an updated kitchen with white-quartz counters, a matching backsplash, stainless-steel appliances and a glass-and-goldtone hanging fixture.

The bedroom, off the living room, is big enough for a queen-size bed; the en suite bathroom has a Carrara marble-topped vanity and a custom-made glass shower door.

Off the kitchen is a mudroom with a windowed bench seat and a closet; a glass door leads to the pool area and guest unit.

The guest unit behind the main house has oak flooring; an open kitchen with Miele appliances including a wine refrigerator and a built-in coffee maker; and sliding-glass doors that open to the pool. The bedroom has an attached bathroom with matte-black hardware and a walk-in shower.

Outdoor space: The pool is accessible from the main house, the guest unit and the accessory dwelling unit. The driveway on the side of the house has two parking spots.

Redwood City | $2.198 Million

A 1957 ranch house with three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms, on a 0.2-acre lot

Redwood City’s slogan, “Climate Best by Government Test,” was the result of a local contest held in the early 20th century to publicize the area’s notable qualities — among them, its enviable weather. The winner of the contest was awarded $10, and the slogan now adorns arches around downtown Redwood City.

This house is in the Farm Hill neighborhood, a few blocks from Stulsaft Park, where there is a children’s playground and a network of walking trails. Roy Cloud Elementary School, a well-ranked school for students in kindergarten through eighth grade, is a few blocks away. San Francisco and San Jose are about a half-hour drive.

Size: 2,130 square feet

Price per square foot: $1,032

Indoors: The house sits on an incline, with a paved path leading from the sidewalk to the entry. The front door is original, with a midcentury knob and wood shutters on either side.

Across the threshold is an open living-and-dining room with hardwood floors, street-facing windows and a stone fireplace. The dining area is in front of sliding-glass doors that open to the backyard. Through a doorway is a kitchen with new vinyl flooring and wood cabinets; it is big enough to hold a second dining table.

A hallway off the living room leads to the bedroom wing. The primary suite is at the far end of the hall, with sliding-glass doors that open to a small balcony; the bathroom has a stall shower and a simple white vanity. Two other bedrooms off the hall share a bathroom with a combination tub and shower with etched-glass doors.

The fully finished lower level has a fireplace and a large family room that could be converted into a home theater or gym. A separate space is used by the sellers as a home office. This level also has a walk-in closet, a laundry room and a powder room.

Outdoor space: The partially covered deck, off the dining area and kitchen, makes for a pleasant outdoor dining spot with a view of the backyard and pool. Steps lead from the deck to the grassy portion of the good-sized yard. The kidney-shaped pool is surrounded by a deck, with space for sunbathing, and enclosed by a fence. The attached garage has room for two cars.
