Huawei Is Set to Appear in U.S. Court
The Chinese technology company Huawei was scheduled for a hearing in a Brooklyn federal court on Friday, potentially clearing the way for the release of the technology executive Meng Wanzhou in Vancouver and removing an important hurdle in Beijing’s relations with Canada and the United States.
The Canadian authorities arrested Ms. Meng, 49, the technology giant’s chief financial officer, in December 2018 at Vancouver International Airport, at the request of the United States. Ms. Meng, the daughter of Huawei’s founder and chief executive, Ren Zhengfei, instantly became one of the world’s most famous detainees.
